I wanted to share a quick story with you today – and an exciting invitation! It goes like this…
When I was 7 years old, my family got our first video camera. We could use it to tape school events, birthday parties, family picnics, that sort of thing. But pretty quickly, I got in front of it and started to act, playing a character and bringing my own story to life. I wanted to make a movie!
From then on, and all the way through my teens, I kept going – sometimes with the help of a family member or two, and often just by myself, filming scenes in the back garden. I was too shy to tell my friends at school about my little hobby. I didn’t know I could share my stories with the world. So I kept them to myself for a long time.
Finally, at age 19, I had the chance to go to university, where I found that I was not the only one who wanted to make films! A few weeks in, I had already written a new script, and was directing a whole cast and crew! It was awesome. From this production, I went on to run several more – a couple of mishaps at first, then some amazing breakthroughs, including an original short film called Sweet Cicely which changed the game for me and provided opportunities for a whole team of fellow students.
But then, in March 2020… Well, we all know what happened then! Safe to say, the idea of gathering a big group of people together and travelling all over the place for film shoots was pretty much off the table. I was stuck at home, with only the resources I had in the cupboard, working by myself – just like I had been at the beginning. So I went back to my roots, and kept practising my skills in the back garden. This would ultimately lead to a project unlike anything I’d been able to achieve before – our most recent short film, Paxford!
Now, the time has come for our next production, and for this one, I’m opening things up. I know that when people come together and collaborate, the potential for positive impact is so much greater! For this short film, Sparks May Fly, I’m thrilled to be working with a whole team again, bringing together young filmmakers and creators from all around the UK (and several international too!). As we bring this new story to life… We’re inviting YOU to join us!
In the spirit of collaboration, our team has launched a small crowdfunding campaign, which will cover essential production costs and ensure we make this the best film it can be. Every contribution makes a huge difference, and we would absolutely LOVE to have you on board!
Through this campaign, you can know that you are playing a crucial part in the creation of Sparks May Fly, and helping to impact every audience member who will see the finished film!
We can’t wait to bring this film to the screen, and we hope you’ll join us for the journey!
