Self-Tape Guidance for Actors

If you have been asked to submit a self-tape for a Breaking Jar Ltd project, please follow these instructions:

  1. LOCATION: Find a quiet space, with a calm, plain background, and as few distractions as possible. Check that both the lighting and sound are strong enough for you to be seen and heard clearly. Natural light is preferred, so record during daylight hours if you can.
  2. VIDEO SETTINGS: Record landscape (horizontal). Video resolution should be 720p or 1080p, file type MP4. (Please do NOT submit large 4K or MOV files as these may not be processed.)
  3. CONTENT: You do NOT need to add a slate or personal introduction to your video. Only include your performance of the piece.
  4. FILE NAME: Ensure the video you submit is titled with your full name. If the video has a generic title (e.g. “IMG_001”), you need to rename the file BEFORE you upload or send it.
  5. COVER LETTER: If you have been asked to submit a cover letter, that is the place to include all personal details about you, your eligibility for the role, and your interest in the character. Please do not send an AI-generated cover letter. It needs to be a brief personal note from you.

Thank you for following these instructions. We look forward to seeing your tape!
